F11 HST201 Teacher improve. um, i feel like the class was successful, but i actually thought the forums were difficult. on the first day, all you said was that they were going to be easy points, but it's hard to post about something you are having a hard time understanding. i think the forums reading material and information could have been more interesting, i did not not enjoy that part of it. 1 maybe not demanding so much as far as the forums go. i feel there is way to much weight on the forums. the use of the online forums should be toned down considerably as it is very hard to keep up with the requirements of the forums. instead of reading 9 pages for the forum in addition to the 30-40 pages we have to read to prepare for each quiz, it would be nice to have the forums be a less percentage of the grade seeing how my grade was dropped lower than i thought it would due to not being able to keep up with the forums. the study guides for the exams should be a little more detailed as to what chapter each topic will be found in and come to think of it, the mid-term and final exam are way too long. YES the forums are great because they are not "how did you feel about this" type questions, i have always found it helpful to work in groups with my fellow class-mates. i think if escobar had students work in groups, or pairs from time to time it would improve the class dynamics. working with others during class time also increases self-confidence and can even create higher test scores. Source: http://www.nybooks.com/articles/archives/2011/nov/24/our-universities-why-are-they-failing/?pagination=false having the chapter quizzes due the monday before we actually started going over them chapter was a bit rough. other then that, the class was great. show ch 10 scores and "how rough" they are to get 50% stupidity i felt that there was too much emphasis on the online forum. it being 30% of our grade i had difficulty identifiing what was being asked. the answers to the multiple choise questions were also confusing. i had a hard time desifering what they were acually stating. overall this was an informitable class. this class should not be a hybrid class, you need more time in class discussion. nice, but. . . the forums were the most discouraging part of the class for me becasue, even after reading the material, i still felt kind of lost a lot of the time. it kind of made me feel stupid. see me ************** ************* ********** hybrid results In deciding to take or remain in the class at the start of the term, did you read any of my student evaluations from past terms that were available to you on the website? NO 49% Did you use the Moodle messaging feature to contact ANY other students or friends, either in this course or ANY other course during this term? NO 69% i sometimes have trouble participating in the forums but i still think they are a good idea because it forces me to engage with the topic and share my thoughts on it with my group, which i normally wouldn't do. GET HELP i enjoy the hybrid class, but surprisingly for a hybrid course, i think that the forums required a little too much of students. i took an online course one term, and it required less online participation than this hybrid course. WOW I DON"T KNOW WHAT TO SAY ABOUT THIS it would be really awesome if you could construct some defined place for students to get together to study/go over material/discuss forum/make flashcards for future tests, whether or not you are there it would be neat! :) I"D BE GLAD TO RESERVE A ROOM FOR YOU A 9 B 23 C 18 D 12 26 F 10 zeros on either forum accounted for ALL D's and F's and 12 out of 18 C's
