I love it. The material was interesting. classes were original and also interesting. He sent out announcements which were also helpful. It was a great class. I loved it. You can tell he really has a strong passion for history. He always brought in visuals to teach which really helped me learn the material better. I have never like history classes and going into this class I was not to excited but after having Mr. Escobar as a teacher that changed. I am actually taking another history class this next semester because he sparked an intreats in me to learn more about U.S. history. I have learned so much and highly recommend this class. Another thing that I liked was the forums. I didn't do very well on the first forum but I think I did a much better job on the second forum simply because I knew what was expected of me. One thing that the instructor could do to help keep the students on track with the weekly reading is maybe having quizzes. I feel the only area of the class I have trouble with is the reading. When reading the chapters I sometimes find it hard to know what to be looking for. Having online homework actually made it so that I thought about the material almost every day, even when we didn't have class ( which, with snow days, was sometimes a full week). Joe is a great teacher and I really appreciate the effort he puts into being available to his students and providing intersting materials for class. For me? I appreciated that things that were really important to know were made clear to us and that we saw videos that added to and clarified the material. It was VERY helpful and appreciated that the instructor communicates about deadlines and assignments often through email and moodle. He shows a very strong sense of enthusiasm about history and he knows what he's doing. I also liked the timing for classes. It works well with my work schedule. For some reason, it seems that the in-class power-points only outlined the subjects generally. Because we had to read a lot of chapters from the book, I created my own study habits which helped me, especially towards the end of the term. Very enjoyable class. I got a little discouraged in the forum section. I really tried hard at first to put effort and respect into my posts but then eventually I was discouraged in the scoring I received and the lack of quality posts (spelling, grammar and sometimes thought) submitted by a percentage of my peers. I am wondering if maybe it is just the technology in that room? There was a lot of detail, and although it was sometimes difficult to handle it all, I liked that we learned as much as possible. I also liked the online forums. They were a great way for us to apply our knowledge of what we were learning and expand on that. Lectures were sometimes boring. The videos put me to sleep. There was one day when everyone actively participated and that was when we used the electronic hand held answer button remote things. Professor Escobar is very knowledgeable when presenting the material, and is well organized. The online moddle quizzes were a great review to the textbook. This textbook was a good choice. The instructor used a lot of hands on instruction tools that kept us aware of what was going on and it was easy to not doze off into a sleep. I didnt have any real problems with the class.
