What did you like about the class?
Emphasis was placed on connecting history to modern issues. Memorizing dates wasn't necessary to understand importance.
I liked that the class was very fun. Having some knowledge of history helped me a lot to understand what was going on and to accurately answer questions.
twas easy to keep up and get full credit and still remain interesting
Instructor is very straightforward and knowledgeable
I have always struggled with history and have never really been interested but he made the class so interesting and i have to say, he has been the only history professor to be able to do that for me. I loved the enthusiasm and his passion for history. I also really loved his method of grading. It wasnt super easy but it wasnt impossible either. He made so so that as long as you get your work done, put in the effort on the forums and do the quizes you should still pass the class even though your not a good test taker, which im not. I think people struggle in exams even though they study because like me, i blank alot. And i don thtink it is fair to get such a low grade just because your not a great test taker. So thank you for being considerate of that matter.
Enjoyed the style of teaching and the class overall.
The Class moved at a steady pace, never lingering on materiel to the point where it became dull and boring. The practice of having students read the chapter and then having important information reviewed with accompanying slides was very effective at reinforcing important information. The teacher/professor was extremely knowledgeable and helped connect the history being learned to students through personal anecdote. The teacher/professor was very acceptable to students.
I liked how obviously passionate about the subject material you are . I really appreciated that coming to class, paying attention, and doing the required work never felt overwhelming, or like a chore. As a teacher you've created a course that while encompassing a lot of material never felt like too much, and your grading system creates a situation that makes it very difficult to fail. I was very nervous about getting back into college after a long time away, and even though the course required a lot of work, I never felt underwater, and I always looked forward to coming to class. I really liked how you incorporated documentary footage, audio recordings, and lots of multimedia into your lecture presentations. Every week it felt as if you had taken a lot of time to craft an engaging presentation, that never felt like you were just bored and lecturing, and honestly that made coming to class a highlight of my week at times.
I enjoyed the way multiple sides of issues were presented and we were shown the difficulties of truly understanding historic events.
I liked how real the class was and how the professor wasn't opinionated and called out fake history.
I loved the quizes, i liked how you could take them over and over and did them before we went to class that week.
it was okay, american history is not my favorite and so i found the semester hard to follow and stay engaged but that is not your fault.
Besides the history, I liked how the instructor was in the classroom and was enjoyable to listen to.
I really enjoyed this class because of how Joe teaches. He is very knowledgable on the subject and does his best to make every chapter interesting for all of us students.

How Mr Escobar taught us the material.
I did the evaluations on the myLane website prior to realizing I could do them on Moodle, so I'll keep these brief compared to those evaluations. I have enjoyed this class very much and I value the knowledge I gained from this class highly. Joe does an excellent job teaching and makes class an experience I look forward to.
Prof. Escobar was obviously very engaged with the material, and taught it well.

It got me thinking about stuff, such as the Old South, where only the richest plantation owners had many assets, it also gave me a new perspective on many things.

Joes style of teaching is amazing, he's a straight forward person who will allow you plenty of opportunities to get the grade you deserve. It's not the easiest class I have taken at LCC. However, it is the class that I have truly learned the most from. Joes constant updates on Moodle makes it seem almost impossible to miss a deadline, which shows how much he wants his students to succeed. Truly a teacher who cares.
the use of videos and quiz's to help express the material discussed in class.
I like that it is a hybrid. I also like that the instructor is knowledgeable, and excited about the course material, and that the instructor visits historical sites so that we can learn about history from a more personal point of view instead of all textbook.
Clear instructions. The moodle part was clear. He had good experiences to enrich the history. He was unbiased. He was good, and it was a good class.
I always enjoy your lectures. I really like how organized you're teaching is and how clear forums are.
I liked how the instructor used the time we had efficiently. He didn't waste time and talked about the subjects thoroughly and clearly.

I liked how we were taught exactly what we were told we were going to be taught. The lectures went along well with what we were reading in the text. I also really likes how we actually used the textbook.

I really liked all the different formats of learning information: video, audio, cartoons, PowerPoint, textbook, etc. Everything presented seemed in agreement with what was being taught overall. If you heard it, read it, or saw it more than once - that’s something you need to know. I also liked all the little facts.

How could this class be improved? Add any comments about the class and/or instructor that you feel might be helpful or useful.

Could make it even more clear that history is important in understanding issues today. Helps generate interest in history instead of students dismissing it as irrelevant to their learning and future.

best history class ive ever taken
This class was great, I don't have a single negative thing to say. I suppose if I were forced to make a comment I would maybe suggest that instead of breaking up the class with the first half being chapters 1-5 and the second being 6-9. If possible I would have liked to spend an extra week in chapters 5-7 because the information was so relevant, and I felt like that was such a definitive era in our history. Especially since chapters 8 and 9 felt like general survey chapters that influence the next part of American history and had less to do with the revolutionary war era. Totally a nitpicking critique... perhaps more of a comment about how my favorite part of this term was when we studied the events leading up to and including the revolutionary war, and the drafting and creation of our constitution.
I felt slightly unsure about the forums and exactly how the grades for those were determined so maybe clearer instructions on that.  Other than that, I really enjoyed your class. Thank you.
To be honest I think it depends on the students preferences because I think this was a great class now was it the most beneficial to me learning/understanding of the class yes and no because I'm not used to lectures then teaching my own self but I did get used to it and enjoyed the way the class was run and understand why it is the way it is. 
I think haveing there be a way to make up points! I personally had 2 major family crisises this term, where i had totally checked out of school for a week and wish i could make up points where i missed, or make up points from other areas, But other than that i think the class was awesome! I had a good time and really enjoyed your teaching! 
I had no idea how to do a forum and the lack of structure around that cause many panic attacks and then badly written forums or not even tried ones. I had never done a forum before and I didnt have time before or after class to meet up.
I don't think the class can be improved, or rather I can't think of any ways to improve it.
I liked this class a lot. I am taking the 202 course next term. I will say having attendance be a part of the grade is challenging but even when I was sick this term I still made it to class.
I don't think that there's much to improve. he gives you everything you need to succeed in his class. It up to the student to take advantage of it. 
I think attendence being a higher percentage of our overall class grade would be more effective in raising overall class participation each day.
This class could not be improved. Joe's US History courses have been my favorite of those I've taken at Lane. Thank you again Joe.
Perhaps more student engagement and discussion in places during class. As the teaching could be less engaging at times. Personally I found good discussion on forums minimal to realistically non-existent, more emphasis on the discussion aspect might be better. Though I understand that it might be inevitable that the discussion is minimal.
he would tell you you don’t need to remember dates and numbers then his tests would ask specifically about dates and numbers. He also expects us to read 30+ pages and take notes while we all 2+ classes and jobs we have to work around. So the amount of work in a class is a little too much
Instructor could have exhibited a little bit less personal bias and been more delicate when discussing controversial material. 
The textbook has a lot of information in each chapter. Perhaps if key concepts were highlighted throughout the lesson I would see my understanding for the material increase. 
The forum posts were tedious, and for the most part did not help me study for the tests however seemed useful to others.
I think this class is fine where it is.
Dropping lowest quiz or forum 
I really enjoyed the lesser amount of forums. I think the class has already been improved the best it can be, maybe find more ways to integrate extra credit opportunities. Besides that, Thank you for being such an awesome teacher.

I think the forums could be improved by giving a student a half point if they cite a reliable source, and if they choose a side in the forum. 
I would rather write a 10 page research paper than take a test.
Nothing needs to be improved!
Perhaps some more interactive ways to be taught in class rather than mainly listening and looking up at the screen. Writing notes down is helpful, but more visual, interactive demonstrations to get the subject matter across and stick would be really good.
More consistent forum schedule. I would have preferred they be every week rather than skipping weeks here and there so it wasn’t so confusing.
I don't think there is much too be improved to be honest!
I wish the slides given during lecture were available to us on Moodle so we could go over them by ourselves again to lock in the information.
No forums. Throughout this term I have found that the forums have not really helped me but just taken up extra time and worsen my grade.
The teacher needs to spend time less one liners that have NO revelance to the material or the exams. The teacher goes on and on about textbooks author's bias then goes through the lecture in broad terms and broad strokes. I believe if the instructor were to stick to the facts of the class and stop the over mention of historial bias, it would have been a decent class.
I would have liked more class participation and less forum posts. The class is entertaining and enjoyable if you’re a dedicated student. The instructor has a great personality, is realistic, and is available and approachable if you need help.
